Tarakihi, snapper and bigger than normal red snapper

The fishing in the deeper water is still going well, but it’s been quite slow in the midrange areas, between 20 to 50m.

Midweek outside Motiti we had a good selection of tarakihi, snapper and bigger than normal red snapper [which are require respectful handling, head plates and scales will both slice fingers like razors, towels are recommended].  They’re good eating, and great in the smoker.

Normally, this time of year has some of the best fishing, but the conditions have been unsettled in the last week or two. We’re seeing more of the dreaded wind over current , which always makes things tougher.

Generally the current follows the wind, but when they go out of sync., it reflects in the fishing. It normally doesn’t last for long but frustrating when it does.

  • Hi Daphne ,

Please thank Brett for a great trip the other day

We didn’t get on to the Kingi’s on this occasion but we do appreciate the conditions were against us and we know Brett did everything possible . Still, everyone got plenty of fillets to take home and we thoroughly enjoyed the day

You will see us again and we will recommend you

  • Dear Daphne and Brett.

I wanted to write to you to acknowledge what a great fishing charter you are running on board  the manutere. We have been on numerous  trips with you lately, and always returned home with fish, after having a great day out with Brett. We have found Brett to be very knowledgeable, friendly and always keen for a laugh. we have been on many different charters over the years, and the manutere rates very highly.

Ironically, I own my own boat, yet love a day out on the manutere.

Keep up the great work. Look forward to seeing you next time!

    Kind regards,

    Shane Janssen
