Good steady fishing around Motiti
6 March 2018

We got off to a good start to the week on Tuesday with light winds and good steady fishing around Motiti.

The snapper are in good numbers in the 20 to 40m depths with  plenty of nice sized ones  among them. We got onto the tarakihi in the deeper water so a pleasant productive day.

Wednesday’s forecast was identical, but it was a different ocean outside the entrance, with a very unsettled sloppy sea, and no complaints when we canned the trip.

A current from the West with an easterly swell against it was the problem, and just a bit more wind made all the difference.

The Easterly continued  through the rest of the week, effectively killing the weekend, although we fished the harbour on Friday for the Seeka fishing contest.

Not exactly red hot fishing, but we got a few snapper and a reasonable number of kahawai and trevally so not too bad considering.

WHAT OUR FANTASTIC CLIENTS SAY

  • Hi Brett,

This was a trip to remember , the company, fishing , and the way we were looked after was second to none . and I have done  a lot of  trips ,

I would like to thank You Brett and your Son Ben  , Ben was an AWESOME deck hand , we didn’t need to do anything but fish  and  no matter where you took us there was fish there ,

The jigging for Kingi’s was un-real most of us have never seen this done , only on TV , but to do  Jigging,   hell yes it was fun.

Once again  Brett thank you and   son Ben for a trip that we will talk about for a long time

  • Hi there Brett, just a quick thank you for the lovely fishing trip we had today.

Myself my wife and parents had a fantastic time.

It may have been a bit choppy today but luckily my family didn't supply any extra burley and really enjoyed the trip. We have about 2kgs of Terakihi filets in the fridge which we look forward to enjoying tomorrow.

After trying different charter boats I have found Tauranga Marine Charters by far the best.

We really appreciate you helping and guiding my wife and parents who are first time fishers to get set up and get onto some fish.

Looking forward to doing it again sometime.

    Many thanks
    Aaron

    Hi Brett,

I enjoyed my fishing during my last trip to Tauranga. The fishes caught was really delicious...Taratiki. I couldn't wait to eat them, so, I cooked a few fillets at the Bay Palm Motel where I stayed. I brought the rest back to Perth and my family just loved them.

Just a note that you should be aware of so that you can advise all future Australians who fish with you and want to bring the fishes home. The fishes MUST be headless, gilled and gutted. Remember, must not have heads. I decleared my fishes and the first questions asked was whether I removed the head (which I did) and since my fishes were also gutted and gilled, I could bring in ALL(including the fillets).

Best wishes for the season and happy fishing.

    Regards,
