Another good, interesting week, which started with a couple of bottom fishing trips outside Motiti.
We stopped at a mark inside the Okaparus, but only got a lot of little snapper so flagged that and continued onwards. The tarakihi were biting well, and again on Thursday, where we also picked up a couple of nice kingfish. We’ve been getting a few while bottom fishing this season.
An overnighter to Mayor saw another slow evening fish, but the bottom fishing next day was good. We had a go at some drift fishing, but the bluenose weren’t biting so we finished off back at Mayor with some good tarakihi and a bonus couple of Hapuku.
A day Hapuku trip started well with 6/8 bluenose , then just the odd one or two for the remaining drifts, plus a nice bass, and a few skippies on the way home.
A decent day on the tarakihi on Sunday, though it would have been more successful if 3 bronze whalers didn’t join the party, stealing fish, lines and sinkers from the bottom to just under the boat. Never seen them in deep water before and wouldn’t mind not seeing them again.
Thanks for a fabulous day on the water. Just ate some great fish and washed it down with nz Pinot.

Hi Daphne
Just wanted to drop you a quick note to say thanks to Brett for the great day yesterday. Boys had a heap of fun, especially once over the touch of motion sickness, and were very thrilled to catch some fish. They are in the fridge for a feast tonight!
Hope to get back before too long and do it all again.
Kind Regards
Jo Davis
