Just a quick note to keep you in the loop with how the first round of the race series went.
The Saturday day went relatively smoothly, having been a full year since I had last been to Hampton downs and never having raced there. I spent the practice refamiliarising myself with the track and settling into a bit of a groove. I had a small crash in the afternoon, low siding from keeping the brakes on fractionally late, luckily no damage to myself and only minor damage to the bike. My flatmate acting pit crew helped me to fix the bike up and was back out only missing a session and learning quickly from my mistake.
I was really happy with my progess during the Sunday race day. I qualified 15th out of 25 on the grid, the level of the competition was very high with most of the opponent's being of national and international level and this their home track for a majority.
With this being the highest level of competition I have raced in there was some nerves before the Race One, I must admit. I managed a fair start and after a hectic first few laps the race then settled down. I was able to get into a good rhythm and settle into a rather solitary ride for 15th
Race Two I was a bit more happy with. After an average start I worked my way past some traffic and put my head down chasing Billy Redmayne, a isle of Man regular and no mug on a circuit. I got past one of my friends from club racing with, in retropect quite a forceful pass and set after Billy. I managed to get my 3 best laps of the weekend in a row here, two 1:09.7's and a 1:09.8 , I was really happy with this consistency and felt I had settled into a good groove and re-learnt the track. Unfortunately towards the end of the race I made a mistake following Billy and lost my hard won time. I eventually settled in behind him for 14th across the line.
I am looking forward to Manfield this weekend, a track I am more familiar with and hoping for some decent results.
